I don't think that you need to worry about your RAM usage if you are happy with your computer's performance. RAM usage is heavily influenced by Vista's Superfetch feature--which loads frequently used instructions into RAM. Also, I know that you are using ReadyBoost, and, while Readyboost is not RAM, it facilitates the use of Superfetch--since flash storage can do a better job than a hard drive in carrying out certain instructions. I am not sure about the answer to your first question. But, my best estimate of the truth is that MS won't put new builds in boxes. My problem in answering is that I have never bought more than boxed verison of any operating system.
