I'm a little confused about removing McAfee -- all I see in add/remove programs is McAfee Securit Center -- so I dont know if that includes it all.
Are you using software firewall? or the installed one? I guess the Vista firewall does protect against outgoing traffic but I am reading its a bit of deal to activate and set it up as it does not run in default. I may be off base in my thinking but to my mind if you got to worry about outgoing , I would think your computer has already been compromised . But what do I know. |
Removing McAfee Security Center should remove it all. The Windows firewall, along with a router firewall, should be excellent for battling incoming. Do you use a router? What brand? Model? The Windows firewall does a credible job on incoming by itself.
The Windows firewall is virtually impossible to configure to deal effectively with outgoing. No current firewall does a decent job on outgoing IMO. I would wait for Zone Alarm (free) or Comodo (free) before thinking of changing firewalls--especially in the context of outgoing. What you say about outgoing basically is true. So, as said, I would wait on thinking about a new firewall. Wait and see what some of us have to say when the new, good ones become available.
