I had the same issue with an earlier install of Vista. I'm not sure what the exact problem, but the way I got around it is to start the install process. When the first screens come up, go to My Computer, C, Users (or Documents and Settings), userid, Appdata, Local, Temp (or wherever your temp directory location is set to).

In that folder you should see the Adobe installation files extracted from the initial install exe. Copy those files to a new folder on the C drive.

Cancel the running install, and then go to the new location and run the setup from there. It will run without any problems.

This drove me crazy until I did it this way. Hope this helps.
