The install idea is a good one, however, I would much prefer it the other way!

The reason for this is that if an o/s is created from source to match your hardware it will be faster and more secure once you have got it install. As a for instance gentoo linux takes up to 14 hours to install and kicks the crap out of windows performance by around 1/3rd. With the boot issue, that is only possible with the 'sleep' option. This is due to the kernel mainly as it takes time to initialise each piece of hardware. If you can think of a way to make an instant kernel then I'm listening

Finally, if you included everything it would cost a fortune and most people wouldnt want to buy it as they wouldnt want everything in the package

If you want the ability to customise and download extra programs like the ones you mentioned for free - they are out there (AVG antivirus, OpenOffice etc)
