You have basically the same problems I ran into.
SATA drivers for XP are different than SATA Drivers for Vista.
That is what messed my system.
carefully checking drivers.. for my system
1. Sata drivers XP = v2.5.1540.28
2. Sata drivers for Vista = v2.5.1540.43
I have to use F6 depending on the OS your using. before the install.
