Hi, and welcome. No reason to be afraid. But, there is reason to not change anything you are unsure about too soon. You will have some adjusting to Vista to get behind you. Your HP will come with a restore partition which will always take you back to factory fresh. If you did not buy a restore disk, then be sure and make the restore disk as recommended by HP. Also, to avoid the pain of having to go back to square one, I would buy a large external drive and Acronis True Image. I would use Acronis to make backup disk images on the drive, for example, one at the point you get your important software installed. I am not making this suggestion because of Vista. Doing what I suggest is a best practice regardless on one's OS. Check out my sig; my new HP laptop probably is a great deal like yours.
