I am betting the backup won't work at all given that it apparently was made with Vista backup. If made with Acronis, then I'd say you'd have a fighting chance. You could always get Acronis for a safety valve. But, regardless, I'd plan for trying all alternatives. First, I'd try to get the backup working on what apparently is a new (or different) drive. I'd try it first without installing Vista freshly. Here, you might have to use Vista Boot Pro to get the drive to boot. If this approach doesn't work, then I'd try installing Vista first. You can always try some more after the new mobo is in. |
