Eric, welcome to VBabble. I'll start by saying that you can't compare RC1 to the current version of Vista, or even RC2. Those bugs you've mentioned has been ironed out and, for the most part, Vista is running very smoothly. As for security, I don't think your school or any college institution should be concern about Vista's built-in security. Security in Vista is much more robust than in Win XP or NT, and while some applications like the built-in firewall are not user friendly, their default setup is good enough to protect any PC really well.
Like any new system, there are going to be a few issues, and Vista is not the exception. Most issues with Vista have to do with drivers. Third party unassigned drivers are not welcome in Vista, and even some XP drivers will not work as well. But manufactures are producing Vista drivers at a fast rate, and soon driver issues will be uncommon. |
