Honestly Znod... the processor wont make too much of a difference. You should see a difference between the hard-drives, but even then it will be in the milliseconds . 10k is great for an os drive, 7.6k is perfect for a media drive

The motherboard is the only thing that scares me

When you say you 'dont have time' to build a PC, it can easily be up and running in less than 3 hours (which includes xp/vista being installed)

I took it back to the store and was given a new one, same model, as I didn't want my daughters to feel that I had exchanged it.

I'm not trying to scare you off, but you want to make sure you get your monies worth.
Thanks felix. We (really my wife) has had excellent results with her two prior Gateway desktops. Actually, no service was/has been needed on either. I'll go with the 4 year on-site service. It's actually very inexpensive.

Yup... fully, but as you say be wary of 128! The reason it is better is bandwidth, and frankly most stuff doesnt use that anyway. On the other hand I have had a few games which wouldn't accept full graphics on 128.

The extra bandwidth would be wasted... get the other card if its cheaper.

On the build-it-myself thing, you are talking about how long it would take you not how long it would take me. I'm still looking into the mobo. What do you guys thing about the card issue? Yes, I am talking about for os drives--one for XP Pro and one for Vista. So, I am leaning toward the smaller, but faster drives. And, I had assumed that the processor speed would make no noticeable difference on all but the most demanding tasks.

I'll get the other one. Yes, it is a known quantity and should be plenty good for me. Also, it is less expensive.

Regarding the build time... that's for you Znod. I could build one in under 90 mins (at a guess).

Still need that mobo model

Well... that's good news I was scared it was going to be a 945 or even a 925... that is a good board! It has the newest intel chipset, so you wont be disappointed

It is a well rounded system, with no major bottlenecks... they have thought the hardware through well, it will be perfect for you.

The ONLY thing I can say against it now, is the fact that it doesn't use an AMD chip (as they out perform intel on a bang per buck level atm). But as you know the company then it sounds like a great choice... don't suppose you have seen an AMD machine you want me to compare?

Also... if you really like, I could show you the system I could make for your budget (just gimme the amount and I'll show you a PC), I will use local prices (ie: US)... it sounds like a pretty tough challenge though It's a good price, but mainly because of the extras you get.

I'll quit blabbing now. The system is SOUND AS A POUND!!! Just tell me if you want some comparisons
