All Networking Probs Solved--One Exception

Hi Friends:

It took some muddling through on my part, but I now have resolved all networking issues on our home network--given the recent addition of my new dual-boot system.. We use a Linksys WRT54GS (Speedbooster version) router and WPA encryption. I have always had wonderful luck with this router.

Things are a bit complicated on our network because the network has two purely XP Pro machines (one wireless desktop and one wireless laptop), an OS X wireless laptop, a wireless Vista RTM laptop, and a wired dual boot RTM Ultimate/XP Pro desktop. With one exception, all networking combinations and possibilities work properly including file sharing between each pair of machines, internet access for each machines, and network printing through the dual boot machine regardless of the system booted. The exception is that I am yet unable to print from the OS X laptop when booted to Ultimate on the dual boot machine. But, I haven't given up yet.

Getting everything working exactly right took some time. But, I am happy I could do so using no "cheater" software.

Check out the how to do it here (post 2): http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?...795&hl=network.

Thumbs up sharing

Hi: I have an Imac running OSX and the way I did it was by sharing the printer on the PC and telling OS X to print on windows settings or something like that...

I haven't yet been able to get our XP box to see the shared drives or shared printer on the Vista box. Of course, I haven't tried real hard yet either, lol.

Thanks much. I can get my Mac to print fine when my dual boot machine is on its XP drive, but not its Vista drive. I am unable to make the "Advanced" procedures I need for my Mac to print on a Win machine work on the Vista drive.

Well, let me know if I can help. I might be able to remember all the things I did. And, actually, I think my system will be harder than average because of the dual-boot thing and also networking OS X.

Hi larry:

I will get back to you. I am a bit under the weather today so I am trying not to do things that would make me feel worse. I'll be trying to rethink the key steps--beyond seeing them all

Best, Z

One question for now. What machine, if any, is the printer connected to? And, I assume that getting to the internet is not a problem with any machine.
