Exclamation Released to Ultimate users

Microsoft have just released the 'Dreamscene Preview' Ultimate Extra to users of the Ultimate Edition of Windows Vista.

Dreamscene, which was revealed at CES 2007, was missing from the lineup of extras at the launch of Vista, as it needed further work. This preview release allows Ultimate Edition users to see what the final technology will be like once the final version is released to the public.

Your desktop background comes to life with Windows DreamScene™. When you download this Ultimate Extra, you can select a video for your desktop background the same way you select a stationary picture. You can choose one of the high-quality looping videos that we’ve included, or use a video from a company that produces content for DreamScene. You can even use your own video as a background.

Hey, I like it, although it looks a tad grainy. I simply applied it to my current desktop background. I am not sure if that is my only choice or not. I'll check it out.

Edit: I am not sure how the preview works, but it looks like I have only Dream Scene content related to the desktop background I had showing when I installed. So, if you install the preview, then be sure and have the background you want showing. My view of what is possible may change when I experiment more.

I probably won't be using DreamScene unless the final product has much less of an effect on system performance. I ran two sets of three with and without DreamScene PassMark tests and found that it slows my system down 30 to 35 points on the composite test. I could actually see the difference on some of the components of the composite test. I might use DreamScene as a screen saver occasionally though.
