True. I'm participating in the project, so I will let everyone know when I get the free product.

Gosh, maybe I should participate. But, I can't figure out what I'd do with another copy of Vista. I have a 32-bit Premium for one machine, a 32-bit Ultimate for one machine, and a 32-bit Ultimate for one machine (currently unused). I have a 32-bit OEM Ultimate from Newegg (currently unused). I have Business Vista from the Gateway/Microsoft Vista "free upgrade from XP program" (currently unused). And, I have Technet 32-bit and 64-bit Vistas. Both of these still are in use with Technet's permission. I ask if it was OK to continure to use them rather than to use the software that came with the respective machines. I guess I could always get Streets and Tips or whatever the program is called. LOL

What exactly does participation entail?

No more freebies as of yesterday afternoon or 12/11/2007. By the way, the program is to last for three months, so I guess that's how long it'll take to get the product.

I have it on all machines. Some student/faculty versions. Thanks for the thought though.

"Danger Mr. Robinson"

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. If you decide no to continue with your participation in the program (In other words, you already signed up and now decided that you don't want MS to spy on you) and want to uninstall the automated feedback software that you downloaded and installed from the Microsoft website, read this first before proceeding with the uninstalling of the software. Make sure to backup all your data.

Let me explain: My daughter downloaded and installed the software on her computer, thinking that maybe we could get two copies of Vista. However, by that time, the offer for free software had expired. She then decided to uninstall the software. After the software was removed and the PC re-started, it began the process of setting up her desktop...just like when installing Vista for the first time or creating a new desktop. Yes, a brand new-clean desktop. In other words, all her data was just gone. No big deal for her because she has learned to backup her data, but also she has System Restore on. She did a system restore to a date prior to installing the software and that did the trick...she got everything back the way it was before.

The moral of this post is: Make sure you have a plan before uninstalling the feedback software. Backup everything you don't want to loose.

Good grief, Charlie Brown. One big demerit for MS. I am glad you daughter's data were well backed up.
