| Still wondering how Microsoft's malware protection solutions stack up with competing products? Well, in a recent test by AV-Test.org, Microsoft's antivirus engine, used in products such as Microsoft Forefront Client Security and Windows Live OneCare, was one of the engines that detected more than 96 percent of the malware used in this test. The test used 29 products against 875,000 files containing various forms of malware including worms, Trojans, bots, and backdoors discovered during the last six months. In August, AVComparatives conducted its second test of consumer antivirus products. Windows Live OneCare detected more than 90 percent of the malware samples and received the AVComparatives certification. This is an improvement of 7 percent over the prior test conducted in February. Based on the continuous improvement of the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine, VirusBulletin views Microsoft as a strong competitor in the AV industry. | Too bad Live OneCare couldn't have been included for free with Vista. But I have a feeling that there would have been more antitrust charges against Microsoft. But I remember reading of the irony of Microsoft making more money over the insecurities of its own OS. I love Windows, all versions, and I'm a fan of Bill Gates, so that's not a criticism I would think it would be difficult to forsee all the vulnerabilities in an OS comprised of some 55,000,000,000 lines of code. (I'm sure I read that somewhere) |
