| OK, so far this is the longest boring uninstall and reinstall in history. I start this at 11:00AM CST USA.... what a piece of work...Oh I'm still not done. 1. uninstall of SP1 16659 did not take long. but the 35 to 37 min of reboot - re config- reboot and reconfig, was boring as hell. and IF YOU LOOSE POWER OR HAVE A GLITCH...you had better know DOS or your SCREWED... like BOOT to DVD and repair via DOS with a RESTORE . 2. any way finally got back to v.16509 which is RTM. 3. installed the patch 4. Found and installed KB 935509 (v.1005) 5. Reboot and reconfig 3 times - boring 6. Found and installed KB937287 (17036 (x86) 7. Reboot and reconfig 3 times - boring 8. Found and installed KB938371 9. Reboot and reconfig 3 times - boring... now this takes me to the current time of 12:50PM CST.... (PS: I currently am still not finished with SP1 v.17036. cmd --> slmgr.vbs -dlv show I'm still at Vista 6000.16509 (RTM) I really needed a break from this very slow and boring upgrade. (as stated in the instruction page.) 1. Users who already have an older version of the Service Pack 1 installed have to uninstall it before they can download the new one. Just use the normal way to uninstall a software. 2. Manually check for upgrades after you install the SP1 v.17036 patch. 3. Start Wndows Update afterwards and go through the process three times in total downloading (KB935509) - v1.005, (KB937287) -Build 6001.17036 (x86) and (KB938371) v1.018 in each consecutive try. One more find and install is needed...

I'm not going thru the uninstall this soon again.... gads that is time consuming and boring... you simply set here and wait, to make sure all goes well. v.652.jpg

| Back from having outside coffee or tea...at the local CX. Of all the beta tests I have done I think this was the longest, most boring and time consuming...Yes, doing a clean install is always faster and easier, but many folks can not afford to do a CLEAN install, every time. There are so many std upgrades that SP1 reads and incorporates and disects then configures around.... and ea time I found a KB the 3 reboots mentioned was call part 1 or 2 of 3 parts to configure reboot and then do part 2 of 3 or final 3 of 3.... PS: Folks this might also be faster if you have a GOOD Fast ISP... remember I'm on basic junk of 400kbps..all tests ran prior to install I had ran tests: Last Result: Download Speed: 444 kbps (55.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 451 kbps (56.4 KB/sec transfer rate) so I'm sure you folks with 2M or 4M ISP's will not have the problems nor wasted time that I had. Gads even a 768kbps speed would be twice as fast.

| Ok, started running some tests... 1. updated Belarc- ran profile- several of the KB's now have (SP) added. 2. started several program and "Active-X" still needs to be approved... running tools every active x i have enabled and active... so the approval for many sites is still needed. Quote:
As I find or do not find things I'll use this thread to amend/add to/edit. 3. Wow - how could I forget this: there is NO Watermark - strange many of the Pirates claim the watermark is back, they even have a patch for that...rather involved but it does get rid of the annoying 6001.17036 beta..... I rather enjoyed the 6001.16549 - oh well so be it. I see very little over 16549 to 17036, its more in how it feels, than how it acts for me... I have a feeling "REALIALIBITY" was the most added factor.. Others if your running 17036 please feel to post your findings.

| i think its smoother thats for sure and i had a bug were if i cleared my recycle bin my icon would dissapear, thats has gone. Also i still had a problem when unzipping files with windows explorer it would get to 99% and stop that is now fixed. So overall vista feels faster and lighter. I would say its on par if not faster than Windows XP for me.
