With the initial performance characteristics of Windows Vista leaving much to be desired (see our previous post on the subject), many IT organizations have put off deploying the new OS until the...

How We Tested

The above conclusion is based on an analysis of the RC0 (v.658) build of Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista. Testing was conducted on a dual-core Dell notebook with 1GB of RAM. The staff ran a variety of test scenarios against both "before" (RTM w/no updates) and "after" (RTM w/SP1 installed) configurations, using the DMS Clarity Studio testing framework to capture scenario scoring and metrics data for upload to the exo.repository.

and Dell (IMHO) is far from the best test machine. Reading is OK, to form your own opinion. They do not like Vista..claim 2x slower and used XP settings for all... Vista requires 2GB ram
If you have nothing better to do read the article... if not then consider it JUNK and continue to operate your version of Vista...

research staff shows that SP1 provides no measurable relief to users saddled with sub-par performance under Vista.
That is a shame. I was really hoping there would been a increase.

Actually to me SP1 RC lowered some for me... Prior to Copyto 4.16 GB took
1m22s after SP1 RC the time went to 3m33s... really suks.

I have both RC on recall and v.17036 on recall.... so every test I make is
I just hope that the Final goes bact to faster instead of slower...
PS: either version is faster than RTM tho...

Still as all should know, ea version of any beta changes something that is very good to worse to test... hell sometimes they ever leave a part OUT...
I can remember when beta for XP they KILLED EVERY MODEM IN THE WORLD.
Yes if you were on dialup- SOL. No modem any where worked...PS: MS fixed that screwup in two days... with a patch....(now how did they fix that, when no modems worked... every good beta tester knows KEEP A RESTORE/BACKUP handly.... Moron Pirates don't ever backup today... they disable UAC and Restore...

Yes, it is confirmed by over 100 Pirates... SP1 RC kills the stoptimer crk.
they are so upset they (failed to keep a restore) they had to format and reinstall Vista RTM...
