| I was hoping for a SP1 release this year, it would make sense for them to ship it before Christmas but if they have put it back to 2008 surly there is some kind of big change? SP1 was supposed to come out September wasn’t it?

SP1 has become so abstract it's no wonder it has been postponed. No one even knows why it i being made anymore. Microsoft have basically said they can resolve almost anything by Windows update now, and as they seem to have back tracked on their new super kernel I would summise this service pack will be a gimmick crabby

Although it's true that Microsoft can take care of most issues through Windows Update, there's a bigger issue when it comes to businesses that intend to deploy Vista. Without a service pack, a large company would be faced with the tedious task of configuring each desktop, laptop and/or tablet PC to the latest updates separately. Though Microsoft is downplaying the issue, investor are really keeping a closed an eye on the company. Without the SP1, Microsoft is having a hard time convincing companies to adopt Vista Enterprise.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet but I have reason to think that VSP1 (Vista) will be late because of the massive changes to search and the search indexing Google want. Just to give you an idea Google want to make it so other search programs even replace the defalt start search AND explorer windows so seems like a big job.

That could be true, but Microsoft can always comply with court orders, in regards to Google, separate from SP1. They've been at work on SP1 for quite some time now and their delay appears more of a failure than anything else. At least they can take care of their customers by offering them Win XP SP3.

I doubt it. Also, I believe that Microsoft decided not to release Win XP3. I guess they figured that releasing SP3 might convince users to stick with Win XP for a lot longer, which could be bad news for Vista. But if they are not going to release Vista SP1, then they should release Win XP SP3; after all, they need to take care of the customer.
