Vista SP1 Analysed in Depth

It's no secret that there's a leaked beta of Vista SP1 floating around, but no-one yet has really taken the time to analyse it in detail to find out what it really does. I made it my mission this weekend to trawl through the registry and file changes in SP1 to find out exactly what SP1 does.

First up, I can say that there is a very noticeable performance increase. It is obvious that since Microsoft released Vista to manufacturing, it has been optimising the code ever since. There's far less hard drive thrashing and in general the system seems much smoother and more responsive. Amusingly, the build of SP1 we saw (which in this beta comes fully integrated into a 3.2GB Vista install DVD, rather than as a standalone update) still has Microsoft's internal network shares embedded as the source of the updates...

One thing I noticed is that I can put my PC to sleep and it wakes up in a very smooth way; like it has been on and running all that time. Before, it almost felt like if it was just startting all over again. When I woke up my PC yesterday afternoon, I though there was a problem with it...it's that noticeable.

BUT BELEIVE ME VISTA SP1 is OFFICIAL. It will be TERRIFFIC for many and for some others it is DEATH. Many Pirated Versions are being KILLED in a rather slow death... (sort of like hanging) (supended by the neck till dead).


Currently this is only available to special testers. (Officially).
The Pirate world has it plastered all over, if you can find a site that MS has not had shut down or the links removed ...

IMHO this SP1 will be WORTH THE WAIT...

I myself have found the copyto - moveto and internet tcp/ip and core upgrades are GREAT. I do not use SLEEP. but I might try it. There are many more but Read the SP1 in depth post... I spoils it enough.

Yes and No. Some times MS Beta programs that are time-sensitive that can be upgraded, and other times NO. Usually there is a NOTE to state it can be or can not be...

sounds like if MS wants Yes, if MS decides NO then it might mean a CLEAN INSTALL. so unless you made a IMG prior to installing who knows...

Question: How many people read the EULA of there OS and LIPEULA prior to installing...?
