Cool WGA Requirement Removed

WGA removed from Internet Explorer 7 update
By Jose Vilches, TechSpot.com
Published: October 4, 2007, 3:37 PM EST

Microsoft has released an updated version of its Internet Explorer 7 Web browser that does not require Windows Genuine Advantage validation to check whether users are running genuine Windows before allowing them to download. Program Manager Steve Reynolds made the announcement today on Microsofts IE Team blog:

Because Microsoft takes its commitment to help protect the entire Windows ecosystem seriously, were updating the IE7 installation experience to make it available as broadly as possible to all Windows users. With todays Installation and Availability Update, Internet Explorer 7 installation will no longer require Windows Genuine Advantage validation and will be available to all Windows XP users.

Red face OK All Pirates can upgrade IE7 - Legally

Microsoft is, for the first time, making Internet Explorer 7 available to users of pirated copies of XP.

One thing's been obvious since the release of IE7 -- its uptake hasn't been as good as Microsoft would have hoped, regardless of the spin the company has put on things.

IE6 is still the dominant browser on the Windows platform, and IE overall continues to lose market share to Firefox.

In the last month, for example, APCMag.com only registered 50.38% Internet Explorer usage. Firefox accounted for 39.9% of users, Safari 5% and Opera 4%. Of the Internet Explorer users, nearly half -- 45.61% are still using IE6

What is in God's name is the point of that?
Seriously can someone explain why Microsoft would actually do that?

Well, for one if you were one to beleive in polls, by the Media.. which are slanted to there way of thinking, and they told you FireFox was catching up on users over you, and if you really thought by removing WGA on IE7, then the Pirates would move from Free FireFox to IE7 (wga removed) and the polls would go up on MS being the big leader in Browser use...

Since XP was the largest Pirated system and MS figures the IE6 people will also move to IE7, then why not...

WGA and the rest of the Protection which MS spend Billions on were/are not really that good... I look at it as Maybe MS will see the light, lower the cost, and offer better then they can again be the major player for OS and browser.

Have you look at Nero lately.... and see that Nero is loosing ground also, with there bloted, ugly, DVD buring system, and Roxio is gaining ground, along with other Burning Software...

BIG BLOATED UGLY JUST DO NOT CUT IT...
XP on 1 CD, is rated better than 1 DVD Vista
Nero 6 (32.9 MB) rated better than Nero 7 (173 MB) Nero 8(177 MB)

Ah I see what you mean about the whole Firefox v IE thing.

By the way, mentioning Nero there I can't seem to install the Demo of Nero 8...keeps saying there was a previous installation and the system must be restarted and still says it after 5 reboots.

Suggest you get the Nero Cleaner or check and see if Nero is still in program under control panel.(if yes click repair or uninstall).. if no then you might check Vista Manager, it does have a very good, uninstall when it can not be uninstalled...and it works..
The hard way is look and Delete every folder with Nero, the run regedit, and remove every entry with Nero, then reboot, then run regcleaner... reboot, and it should install.
Nero 8 will not install with any version of Nero installed... so you must un-install any prior version of Nero.

Download Nero General Clean Tool 1.1.6.4 - Use Nero General Clean ...In some cases it can occur that you have to uninstall Nero or Nero related .... CleanDesk Organizer is an Automatic Desktop cleaning tool - Eliminating the ...

Talking And Now the Rest of the Story-From MS

The real reason(s) behind Microsofts move to exorcise WGA from IE7
Friday, October 05, 2007,
A day after Microsoft rolled out a refresh of Internet Explorer (IE) 7 that no longer requires Windows Genuine Validation (WGA) checks, industry watchers are speculating as to why the company did so.

The IE team, for its part, will say nothing more than what it posted on October 4 to the IE Team Blog:
Because Microsoft takes its commitment to help protect the entire Windows ecosystem seriously, were updating the IE7 installation experience to make it available as broadly as possible to all Windows users
In other words: Microsoft was worried that pirates might not be protected by all the security goodness the company has added to IE, so it decided to remove piracy checks from the IE 7 download process.

Not surprisingly, there are other theories as to why Microsoft removed WGA from the browser...
