People Near Me?

Every day I find something new about Vista. I came across this C-Net article:

http://news.com.com/Vista+revs+up+pe...3-6078051.html

Where it discusses a Peer-to-Peer functionality in Vista called people near me. When I first read it I was wondering how it works, but it works with WIFI and does not require an internet connection. That is unbelievably cool, especially for laptop users, because most laptops have wifi built into them.

If this is even slightly functional I think it will be another real feather for Vista. I thought it might require bluetooth or something less available, but being able to use wifi to communicate with other nearby computers is very cool.

I see potential for Wifi theft, stalking, and other miscelaneous things.....IE it lets you know who in your area has how many computers of what kind.....BAD idea.

Can't you already do that? I am confused. I am not sure how the actual negotiation works or if you can turn it off and secure it. I imagine unless you actively turned it on you would be no more vulnerable then now.

Isn't that kinda the same as UnPnP? Never really cared for that feature much and always disabled it using http://www.grc.com/UnPnP/UnPnP.htm

UnPnP is bypassing of ports for services if they are blocked on a network... (from the out in not vice versa)
