boot/recovery disc

Hi to all. I just upgraded to Vista and so far so good. The new environment will take some getting use to but I like it. My question for anyone that can help is how do I make a bootable recovery disc now that I have a clean install. I've done some searches on the web but nothing I've found was as simple as it describes or easy to follow. I'm not a computer wiz by any means so if you could dumb it down for me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Glad you installed and are enjoying Vista. The best way to learn about Vista features and to find answers to questions like the one you posted is to use the Help and Support section (Start > Click Help and Support).

There are no recovery disc with Vista as opposed to Win XP. Read this information I copied from the Help and Support files:

"In previous versions of Windows, a boot disk (sometimes called a startup disk) was a floppy disk or a compact disc (CD) that contained Windows startup files. If those same files on your hard disk were damaged, you could use the boot disk to get Windows started.

In this version of Windows, the Windows installation disc contains the files necessary to start Windows. You can use Startup Repair and the other tools on the System Recovery Options menu to attempt repairs or restore data from a backup. If your computer manufacturer has preinstalled recovery options, Startup Repair might also be installed on your hard disk. If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website."

Welcome to Vista Babble...
1st question you say you upgraded to Vista.. what mode of media did you use to upgrade?
2nd question when you say I have a clean install do you mean a new updated install or Clean Install? Clean Install refers to FORMAT HDD, Boot to DVD and (Clean) INSTALL Vista .. in many circles/forums upgrade is termed Dirty Install.

Snuffy...
Mode of media? I'm not sure what you mean but it's a CD/DVD disc that was sent to me from HP.

Clean install? Sorry, I guess it was a little confusing. I originally upgraded from XP (dirty install) but then had to repartition my hard drive because Vista used 30GB. So to answer your question, I formatted my hard drive and did a clean install.

Like I mentioned, I've done some research and have heard of Ghost, True Image and similar software but while reading about those products nowhere did they mention creating a bootable recovery disc. Any ideas?
