'ello folks

Hello everyone! My name is Pierre, and you may know me from other forums I [s]procrastinate on[/s] contribute to.

The reason I'm here is that I'm considering upgrading my XP laptop to Vista and a little bird told me about this forum and here I am

Pierre

Pierre! Lots of folks here can help you out with that task. Any particular questions you have?

My biggest concern is my laptop's graphics card. It's an ATI one, well-spec'ed and all, but I'm still worried about it. Is there a utility that can test the card and say which (realistic) level of Aero it's ready for?

Everything else is fine (CPU, RAM, etc).

Have you run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor yet? Even if it fails, it's not like you can't upgrade. Aero is cool, but not necessary.

I did already, and it said that my sound card driver will need updating along with a slew of minor programs. The real question is: is Vista worth it? I might have to ask some difficult questions

Welcome to Vista Babble .... You will enjoy it here I'm sure.

I upgraded my Laptop also.. 1st remove all the little annoying things which the Advisor says will fail ..(they will fail) ..believe me easier that way....
also Vista instantly upgraded my sound card, NO Problems that way... it upgraded the drivers for my Video card... rated at 1.5 and Aero does not run... but thats OK..
