Smile Hello Everyone

Wow, after much frustration I am now free to "Babble" thanks to Dazzlin and much needed support from Znod as well.
I am a new member as of a week or so ago, but for reasons unknown to me, I could not post or reply and now I can.....yeaaaa.
Keep up the great work all you posters. I enjoy this forum immensely and am learning a lot. I have ordered a new Vista Ultimate computer online and am anxiously awaiting its arrival in the next week or so. Many posters have said that they do not notice much difference between XP and Vista. However, for me, going from my present Windows 98 directly to Vista will be a great experience. I have felt like my wings have been clipped for about a year now since I have not been able to download many new programs and applications due to "must have XP " response. A whole new world will be open to me now. I am in the process of reading several Windows Vista for Dummies and Teach Yourself Visually Vista books so that I will be reay to jump right in when my new computer arrives.
For all you "techies" out there , here is what I am getting
Systemax Venture VX2 Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz/4GB DDR2 with Vista Ultimate installed already. If you cannot google this model, I ordered from Tigerdirect.com and it can be found on their search. Will let you know once it arrives and I dive into all the new Vista features.

skelly! Wow, going straight from 98 to Vista is going to be a massive change for you. It may be a little confusing at first, but hang in there. You're gonna fall in love with it!

Thanks Dazzlin,
I am up for the challenge. Anything to keep this retired brain sharp and ward off the Alzheimer bug. I have had my old HP Windows 98 computer for about 9 or 10 years and it was my first computer, so it will be sad to let go of an old friend, but am ready to move on to bigger and better.

Hi skelly:

Welcome again, and I am very glad you got things worked out. I was wondering about your computer since you had mentioned that it is one order. It sounds like a really nice machine. I assume that it is a desktop. What graphics card does it have? You are in for a cool experience, although I won't predict no frustrations. On the other, hand I know you have been reading about Vista so you won't be nearly so much in the dark as some who just jump into Vista.

First, in my case, I like Systemax because they are simple to upgrade with generic hardware. My wife bought one about three years and it came bundle with a lot of software.

Second, Vista was made to take advantage of Dual Core processors and with 4GB of DDR2, Vista will rock for sure.

Third, 1 TERABYTE of storage space…all I can say is WOW.

Fourth, with the GeForce GT7950GT 512MB PCI Express video card, your video experience will be amazing.

Fifth, I envy you. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford one. That’s a great PC.

Thanks Felix,
The way I rationalize the cost, is to divide the number of years that I hope to keep the comuter into the cost and it does not seem so bad. I have had very good luck with my current HP computer. In the 10 or so years that I have had it, the only thing I had to do was replace the fan and add more memory. But , alas, the processor has become too slow for modern usage and no more room for memory expansion. I read a number of product comparisons on CNET and PC magazine and others before deciding on which computer and which Vista version to buy. Since I like to store a lot of music, games, and all the frilly wallpaper, theme stuff for every new holiday, I need lots of storage. Also, Microsoft will probably name me the "Gadget Queen" of all time. I have had AOL ever since I bought my first computer, so even when I hooked up with Bellsouth Fast DSL, I still maintain the AOL 9 Security Version on my computer as well as Bellsouth.
I will let you know more when I get delivered.....soon I hope.
