hi.

I am trying my best to figure out vista and why it is better than my xp pro that I have been using for the last 2 years without any troubles at all. Vista has given me lots ond lots of problems. So I am here in hopes of learning more about it. From what I can see so far, it really wasn't worth the trouble to get it?

Hi, Sorry to hear that your introduction to Vista has been so rocky. This is for sure the place to learn. If you have questions, this is the place for the answers.
Welcome.

Sorry to hear that your having problems, but Vista is still fairly new, and as with XP and other versions, it usually takes a few years to get everything smoothed out.

That said, I did run the beta version of Vista for about 6 months and didn't care much for it, and think that since release, it had more than it's share of problems when compared to XP after the same time.

However I am a bit biased too because I like Linux better than either XP or Vista. Presently I have XP and Linux Ubuntu with Beryl desktop.

I think that many issues with Vista have to do with device drivers and that the issues will be corrected eventually and most issues will be something of the past when SP1 comes along. It seems that the biggest issue customer are experiencing is when upgrading their PC from XP to Vista; for the most part. I can take some patience and a little know how to fix these issues. Many problems can be fixed by clicking the Start button and selecting Help and Support. A good place to start though is Windows Vista’s Help and How-To located at http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...S/default.mspx.

Sandy38, I know exactly how you feel... I am/was a Vista Beta Tester, and when I first started, I'm sure my spouse learned several new words.. I also removed Vista at least 10 or 12 times.. ea time I reinstalled it, it lasted a little longer... Back in 2006 about November. I finally took the FULL PLUNGE.. I removed XP SP2 Corp Version... and went totally Vista on my desktop... then in March 2007, I updated all my LAPTOPS to Vista... Give it time, stick around on VistaBabble for a while... go back and read many of the posts from start to finish... WOW some of the info here it SUPER DUPPER, many problems have been solved, I think a few have not been, but only due to ppl not posting back with YES or NO.

Hi snuffy. Yes, I am starting to get used to it now, after forcing myself to use it. I am using vista on my laptop, but have xp pro on my desktop. Mabe it's just that I don't like changes or something. I am going to give it a little longer and I think I will accept it at some point.

My take is that if you are using Vista just for your day-to-day computing, like searching the web, entertainment and so forth, you'll enjoy it. You’ll run into a few problems here and there, but for the most part, it’s fun. On the other hand, if you are using your computer in a business environment, where Vista is supposed to excel, you may run into issues and frustrations.

Windows XP Pro is an excellent OS and will be around for a little while, at least until Vista can prove itself to be as reliable. Vista SP1 will be a great improvement, but in my opinion, it still needs work.
