| Hi all, My name is Leslie and I live in Kansas. I've used PCs ever since the Windows 3.1 days. Was happy with all the OS' except for ME. I had a Dell computer with ME and it was a nightmare. My current system is a Compaq running XP which I've had since 2004. But I just ordered an HP with Vista Premium, 2 g of Ram and a tv tuner. I've heard all the talk about "evil Vista" for months now (including one personal friend who bought a laptop with Vista on it and never could get it to work). I don't want another repeat of ME, as I go to school online now. Was anyone else afraid before trying Vista, and did you get over it? |

| I personally was a beta tester for MS from day one and I have vista running on three systems and I love it but older systems it can be a problem if the hardware is not up to having the correct drivers check the system out and if its HP your getting they are suppose to have good support. What's to be afraid of its an operating system not the boogie man and any thing that breaks or is messed up can always be fixed back up you data on a slave drive but that is just common sense these days.

| Hi, and welcome. No reason to be afraid. But, there is reason to not change anything you are unsure about too soon. You will have some adjusting to Vista to get behind you. Your HP will come with a restore partition which will always take you back to factory fresh. If you did not buy a restore disk, then be sure and make the restore disk as recommended by HP. Also, to avoid the pain of having to go back to square one, I would buy a large external drive and Acronis True Image. I would use Acronis to make backup disk images on the drive, for example, one at the point you get your important software installed. I am not making this suggestion because of Vista. Doing what I suggest is a best practice regardless on one's OS. Check out my sig; my new HP laptop probably is a great deal like yours.

| Hi there and welcome. Too bad there has been so much negative press about Vista. I was dying to get a computer running Vista and I have had no complaints whatsoever with my machine which I bought last summer. For the most part it is quite intuitive, especially for experienced users and pre-installed should pose no trouble. The main problems have been with upgrades on older machines from what I can gather. This place is one of the best to get answers along the way too, so you will have lots of support. |
