Older than dirt, and doing this silly stuff with computers since late 70's and Mainframes. Partner in a computer business, and am the Utility and Repair Nut. Built every one of my 5 networked systems running everything from 98 to Vista. Ran a BBS for years back in the 80's called Galt's Gulch with over 500 users. I do a lot of Research and Beta Testing for software company's, and enjoy taking making a silk purse out of a sows ear. Reason? I hate things that don't work, especially from company's that say they do work. Love/Hate relationship with MS, since the days of Dos, and still prefer those old days, when cracking a game was fun, and sharing information was not politically or financially motivated. I'm also an old hacker, former member of the Philly 6 and and was being good until WGA came along. ![]() |

As for my opinion of Vista for what it's worth, so far I'm impressed. here is the low end system info I'm running on without headaches (Except for the normal Beta ones) Sorry about the formatting. Computer Type ACPI x86-based PC Operating System Microsoft Windows Longhorn Media Center Edition OS Service Pack Service Pack 0, v.3 Internet Explorer 7.0.5728.16387 DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Motherboard: CPU Type 2x Intel Pentium IIIE, 1000 MHz Motherboard Name Asus CUV4X-D (5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 4 DIMM) System Memory 896 MB BIOS Type Award Modular (06/01/01) Display: Video Adapter RADEON 9250 (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM) (128 MB) Video Adapter RADEON 9250 Secondary (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM) (128 MB) So if someone says it won't run on a Pentium III well.... I'm running the Vista Ultimate. I personally think the marketing is a good move. I for one, and for our customers, like to have options that cover a broader range. It may well be confusing for the masses, but they are confused anyway... |
