Vista Ultimate Installation Freeze

New to forum.

Have run into a real irritating problem for which I can not find a solution.

Trying to install Vista Ultimate OS on new system. OS software is full version. Tried both Ultimate OEM version and Ultimate retail version with the same results. Reached the point of frustration after trying different hardware and 38 different attempts to install.

Successfully installed on different unit so I know software is ok. Problem is installation on my main new unit. When it reaches the "expanding files" segment of the install, the unit freezes at some point and it is not the same point every time. Some less than previous attempt and some more. Tried different combos of hd (ide and sata), cd/dvd units (ide and sata) and thus have narrowed it down to MB, processor, memory, video card or possibly the bios settings.

PC details:
PS Real Power Pro RS-850-EMBA
MB ASUS P5E3 Deluxe
Processor Intel Quad Q6600 SLCR @ 2.4 Ghz
Memory 4G DDR3
Graphics Card EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB PCI-E
HD Western Digital WDC WD1200JB-75C 120GB
CD/DVD IDE Samsung TSST CD/DVDW SH-S182M
/ SATA Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-212D
Monitor Samsung 22" 2ms 3000:1 Flat Screen
Chip Set North Bridge Configuration

No clue at this point as to what to try next.

Try taking 2 gig of ram out and install with only 2 sticks if you have not already tried that option. Plus check options when it asks were you want the install and click format. I just had it myself with the Premium version and reinstalled Ultimate on this 5000+ Black Edition in a record time of 20 minutes to first boot.

Thanks Airman

I have not tried removing some of the ram but will try and let you know. My ram is in two sticks with 2G apiece so I will remove one and try with the 2G.

Success

Bless you Airman. It actually worked and time to install to first boot was 18 minutes.

Need to have a post advising folks with difficulties to limit the ram amount on the install. Mine was with one stick of 2G but the two sticks with 4G total did not work. Actually, Microsoft should advise folks of the problem but as usual they do not help very much.

I will be sure to track this forum in future in case others encounter the same problem as me.

Again, a very big thanks!
