Talking The aero Interface needs less ram then required!

Hi guys,

I am new to the forums here, and this is my first post. Yesterday i got windows vista HOME PREMIUM, and installed it with no problems (becuase when i was reading your posts, they gave me tons of advice), thanks to you guys, and when i was testing out all the cool features, i went for aero first, the windows look great glassy, and i tested out flip 3d, and it was perfect, and you said 1GB, you need 1GB, but guess what:

Pentium 4 1.8GHZ
768MB RAM
ATi Radeon X1600 pro AGP

and Vista worked like a horse, on my system. I want to know i it will actually look and work better on 1GB RAM, because, my VISTA is running smoothly, and want to know if its better on 1GB.

Joseph

Welcome to the site, Vista does generally run better on more RAM, i had it running on 512mb at on point and now I'm on a 1gig and its miles faster. I would also recommend ready boost if you aren't sure what ready boost is...its a feature that allows you to use USB memory sticks (flash memory) as Ram its said it can boost your computers speed by up to 40% depending on the size of the stick......anyways just something for you to think and again Welcome to Vista Babble.

My vid card has 512MB RAM, maybe vista uses an extra 256MB VRAM from my graphics card? and Thanks for the welcome guys! I will be sure to download ready boost!

Joseph

edit: how do you use ready boost, and what is a memory stick? Is it the RAM stick that is plugged into ur motherboard, or flash drive memory?

the ready boost technology is built into vista you just need to buy a standard USB Pen drive, unless you already have one (has to be at least 256mb and a max of 4gb). Some MP3 players work with ready boost too.

On the subject of Flash/Pen/Memory/Data sticks......so many names there all the same and you can use them as RAM and because flash memory is alot faster than Ram it speeds up your system quite a fare bit. Just plug them in a spare USB socket and Vista will give you an option to speed up your system. Make sure the USB drive has the following specs. note that a large percent all use the specs below.........

The USB Key must be at least USB 2.0
The device must be able to do 3.5 MB/s for 4 KB random reads uniformly across the entire device and 2.5 MB/s for 512 KB random writes uniformly across the device.
The USB Key has to have at least 64mb of free space

no you can remove it when ever you want, just tell vista your gonna unplug it and you can take it out. Thats the sheer coolness of the technology.

I would think as you install more programs if this is right after a clean install your ram usage will go up and that is when you will find it posibly needing another stick of ram or give try out the ready boost. Welcome and enjoy

Welcome Joseph. I am glad you have Aero glass with your machine. Lucky you.
