| Hi Friends: I decided to try the CompletePC Backup routine today--well almost all of it. So, I created a (full) 5384 disk image on an external firewire using this procedure. The process worked very well although no options were given. The file size is about the same as the file sizes I get when I make (full) disk images of my XP drive--which using Ghost's recommendations applies some compression. So, I imagine CompletePC Backup applied some compression. Being able to make restore images is very important to me since, once I get a drive working well, I want to hang on to it. After making my 5384 image, I started up with the 5384 disk I had made from my downloaded ISO file to investigate the restore options. And, everything one would want to see was there. I stopped one step short of restoring--sort of like screeching to a stop at the edge of the grand canyon. ![]()

| Update: I tried the Windows (RC1) Complete PC Backup today. All went well. I didn't pay much attention to how long it took. The time was typical of what it takes for me to image either of my drives, etc.--say 40 minutes. No surprises.

Znod, what software are you using to create and image of the HD? I have used Ghost for years, however Vista gives it a no-no on the attempted install. I do have other imaging softwar, but as yet have not attempted an install. |

| Doing a Complete PC Backup is possible through Control Panel > Backup and Restore Center.

I prefer Vista's restore /offline rather than backup/restore.. It uses the last restore point created..and (IMHO) works very well, personally tested 2 times after deliberate BSOD and erasing required files/folders... and it is FAST.. much faster than XP..

| Good point Snuffy. I will try your suggestion first if I every have a serious restoration-needed problem. Then, if your approach doesn't work, using my Acronis disk image should provide a good last resort.
