| Try opening the program and edit your preference. You should be able to do that through the Edit command. There should be an entry related to card readers and deselect the option to launch adobe when your camera or reader is connected.

| msconfig.exe Start Up I went in there and unchecked Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 That seemed to have stoped all the Adobe from showing up when I put a SD picture card in. And the default Windows shows up OK. I have no idea what the implications of this are. |

| It shouldn't have any implications, other than you must load the program manually before using it. But the problem will reappear at any time the program is turned on. There should be a place to edit your preferences.

| Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. I found the following which seems to have been the solution. I just wish they had made this a little easier to find. And maybe ASKED if I wanted this to run and not have it as a default for all the Adobe Photo software. Althought easy to do, not easy to find for a novice. To disable the Adobe Photo Downloader: 1. In the Photoshop Elements 4.0 Organizer, choose Edit > Preferences > Camera Or Card Reader. 2. Deselect "Use Adobe Photo Downloader to get photos from Camera or Reader." Note: If you also have Photoshop Elements 3.0 installed on your computer, you must also disable Photo Downloader in Photoshop Elements 3.0 to prevent it from starting each time you connect an external device. To do so, open the Photoshop Elements 3.0 Organizer and follow steps 1 and 2 above. To enable the Adobe Photo Downloader: 1. In the Photoshop Elements 4.0 Organizer, choose Edit > Preferences > Camera Or Card Reader. 2. Select "Use Adobe Photo Downloader to get photos from Camera or Reader." Background information The Adobe Photo Downloader process started by Photoshop Elements 4.0 is called "APDproxy.exe," and the Photoshop Elements 3.0 process is called "PhotoshopElementsDeviceConnect.exe." The Photoshop Elements 3.0 Photo Downloader does not display a system tray icon, whereas Photoshop Elements 4.0 does add a camera icon with a green arrow to the Windows system tray. |

| Glad you solved the problem and thanks for reporting back to us. That's one reason I recommended to check your preference; programs nowadays are easier to configure, but some expect the user to find the many configurations. I remember how difficult it was to remove the Yahoo toolbar from the browser; it used to take a Google check to find ways to do it. Like you mentioned, the program should allow the selection of Camera Or Card Reader option during the installation.
