mickey. Those are exactly the kinds of things you can expect with a beta OS. Not all programs are ready for it yet. Of course, the first thing I'd recommend you do is to see if the programs you are having problems with, have any updates available that make them compatible with Vista. If not, check to see if their websites have forums specific to their programs, as there may be a temporary workaround. This is why we keep reminding everyone that you should only install Vista on a spare machine and not on your main one. I'm sure there are thousands of programs that won't work with Vista yet (and some may never), so it's a gamble. Also, did you run the Vista Upgrade Advisor tool first? At some point, Microsoft is going to expand on the tool to see how your software will run on Vista, but that's not available yet.

| Take it easy, you should expect problem with the beta but most can be resolved or got around fairly easily. just address one at a time. There's a thread aroundhere somewhere about good virus software that's vista compatible. I suggest checking that out. |

Important Caution: Those Installing Windows Vista on their Primary PC - Please install it on a second partition as a seperate installation - that way you can still revert to Win XP on boot up, and Format the Vista partition should you find you no longer want it on your PC. |

| Before I installed I used a prog called"Acronis True Image" made backup of H/D & a recovery disc. I have a 2nd hard drive for saving the backup, but you can always put it on discs as they are quite cheap these days>>Anne Last edited by TartanLady : 06-22-2006 at 10:09 AM. |

| Same here, used norton ghost, created a ghost image. I like to fly by the seat of my pants so no second partitions for me. I did an upgrade and so far it has it's bugs but it's a beta that's expected. If I come to a point where I need something instantly and vista just wont do and I have no other PC to do it on then I would just restore from my image. I also made an image of vista installed and working satisfactory so I can also restore that back once the crisis is over too. It's always a good idea to have a image and restore app and an image of your drive, beta OS or not. Did everyone know that you could install vista with the same serial and authorize on 10 PCs. I just thought I'd put that out there just incase someone didn't know. ![]() |

| Glad you brought that up. The fact that you can install it on 10 pc's is very cool. (beta, that is)

| Yeah the beta, I remember trying to get another 3 Serial #s for my other home PCs and on the 3rd try it said I had exceeded the number of allowed keys or something to that effect. Then there was a little blurb at the bottom of the screen that said it was able to be installed and authorized on 10 PCs for each serial number. Now what I'm wondering say you format because it's crashing and you reauthorize then that would count as one of the 10 so you would have authorized 2 with 8 remaining?
