| Hi daz: Here are some initial thoughts. But, I have an open mind on everything. As crabby points out, we want to be legal. And, I also agree with the idea that links to software of special interest to Vista users would be a good thing to have. But, I don't think that anyone should be able to post any desired link. Generally, links, I think, should have approval, and be posted in a uniform format, by someone in charge--possibly along with a brief explanation of what the software being linked does, how it needs to be run in Vista, notification of compatibility issues, etc. Still, I think that a section where individuals could post documents, etc., for others would be good too. I am not sure about the sticky idea. crabby might elaborate on what he has in mind.

| Felix is absolutely correct in his observation of "wandering" links. Maybe the moderators should be harder on posters who stray from the thread. These pages, like others around the web, give out a huge amount of useful info. On can quickly lose interest if the thread evolves from a complaint about s-ata drives into a discussion of the merits of different burner programs. I cannot add anything more to Znods observations either. The kind of links should be moderated strongly, or the forums could degenerate into pure pirate pages. There is a remarkable example of this on the web right now (No names!) a year ago existed one of the most level headed computer forums available. A single new member, totally into pirated software, began posting links and downloads and now, dedicated, produces about ten a day. The average number of readers on those pages, at any time of the day, is now down to three or four, with no useful other input. Help draws in a more interested clientel, look at Tech-Guys pages, for example, a couple of hundred reader members every day. (P.S. And having read this after posting - I have wandered off the thread title!!!!!! - I,m copying this over from "No more Windows updates" to the discussion on threads!)) | The sticky I had in mind would be a 'closed thread'. One member (or more if its possible) to update the single post when given new links. Obviously, I appoint Dazzlin for the honor crabby |
