Topic Title: Questions Leading to Possible Don't Shut Down RC1 Tip Hi Friends: On my iBook, I almost never shut down because of the "quality" of the Mac's Unix underpinnings (I just put the iBook to sleep). The idea of not shutting down is that more and more code will be effeciently kept in RAM. Thus, performance will be increase over time by not shutting down. Consistently, I have been doing my best not to shut RC1 down. Of course, I have not been able to perceive a performance difference yet, since I end up shutting down somewhat often. Still, I have not noticed any adverse effects (e.g., system slow downs) from not shutting down after, for example, each session--which is good news. I am wondering how often you shut RC1 down when not required to for one reason or another. And, I wonder particularly if you have noticed an adverse effects of not shutting down frequently. Historically, I think that so many "cobwebs" would develop from not shutting win machines down that it would be imperative to shut down pretty frequently. I doubt that any of us would have had time to notice any improvements in performance from not shutting down. But, if, per chance you have noticed any, then please let us know.

| I shut my PC down once a day or if I have too many issues with applications and so forth. Also, it's been over two years ago, I remember reading an article pertaining to this subjet. Of course, I don't remember everything that was said, but the suggestions was basically to shutdown the PC at least once a day or to clear any issues, "cobwebs". Also, it recommended to shutdown the PC. instead of "restarting" it, if there were issues with applications, programs and so forth. However, I can't remember the reason(s) why to shutdown instead of restarting, or if there r differences in between complete shutdown and restart. |
