Talking vista

vista i have tested every copy of it right from the start, let me put a few things in to this thread, not all xp drivers or software will work with vista ,like office xp 2oo3, vista could come out in 2007 , but what use is if you cant get vista drivers for your hardware,at the end of the day it,s going to cost us a lot of money for software and hardware my pc is only a 1 year old, and most of the software vendors say will not do any drivers till vista till it comes out . i say stick with xp for at least another year.

Most hardware works with vista at the moment. Fine you may have to use the generic drivers and even if it does work it may not have the same performance. But it is a beta so what else can you expect! It is true that MOST companies wont produce certified drivers until release but there are quite a few reasons for that, not limited to the cost of producing new drivers and the fact that MOST companies are small. The big ones (for instance, nvidia, ati, hp etc) are all on the vista band wagon and producing 'beta' drivers as we speak. I can't see how it will cost alot for software as 75% software works as is and the compatability mode basically allows another 20% to work (incl. starcraft btw ). In fact I have been unable to fail a gaming install in RC1, the only fail I have managed is Deamon tools (a virtual drive manager) which has now been rectified. I have an issue with DivX but that is because their software isn't supported and it is used in the shell for thumbnails. All of which will be ironed out overtime.

But I really think it comes down to the fact that you have missed the point of betas and the people who use them. We use vista because we like the NEW! and the issues that arise from incompatability are fun to try and solve. Obviously if stability is what you want you will still want to use XP but sometimes the same old can be really dull.

Most people you will find on here dual boot both vista and xp (i have gotten rid of xp entirely but still have multiple Linux installs) and so the issues of software and hardware compatability are void as they can still use them... they just need to reboot

Hi btw... and welcome to the forums

Weclcome wizkid2. Please provide us with more of your thoughts.

Yes, some people have dirver, etc., problems with Vista, but most get them solved. I use RC1 and have no reason to go back to XP Pro. Everything works pretty much perfectly with all my/our software, peripherals, and network. Below is a list of my installed and running software. Not included on the list is Winrar and Ultimate DVD-CD Burner. And, my/our iPod, Pharos 525, flash drives and cards, wireless network (networked with a Gateway desktop, two XP Pro laptops, and an iBook), network printing, and external hard drives, including firewire and USB, all work perfectly (with one small expception that really does not matter).

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

I don't have as many programs installed as Znod, but every program tha I have installed so far has worked. With some, I received a non-compatible message from Vista, but once installed, they work. I agree with Crabby, once Vista is a complete-final product, you'll see lees problems and better stability.
