Overview of Windows Mail

Windows Mail is a completely overhauled mail client that appears to be very good. It includes the same spam filter that is used on the latest version of Outlook, which will be updated on a regular basis.

Most exciting is that it will include a phishing filter, similar to IE7's. This alone should make it worth using.

Instant-search is a great addition. As you type, searches update and instantly filter out things that don't match your search (it searches the names, addresses, subjects, and bodies of emails).

Tired of corrupting your mail database when your power goes out? No more! If you lose power while updating the database, you won't corrupt the whole mail database; instead, you'll only lose the one entry that it was working on at the time.

Is Vista going to include a full-fledged mail client comparable to Outlook or will it be a reduced client like outlook express?

Never used Outlook or Express much myself. I used Pegasus Mail for years becasue I am weird and now I use thunderbird.

Phishing refers to those emails we all get that pretend to be from some bank or paypal or wherever, but really aren't.

It just occurred to me that this may again encourage anti-trust what about thunderbird and Eudora.....everyone uses outlook express because it comes with the computer...When will the little guys get a chance.

I agree with Harbaugh, and the phishing filter..how does that work? They can never guarantee to get rid of all that stuff for you. That would be impossible.

I was under the impression that the phishing filter was a feature for IE7 used to "phish" for suspicious code on websites? Is it integrated into the mail client too?

I currently use Thunderbird as my mail client and have an extension installed to detect phishing emails. It works well. So, it can be done via the mail client.

Ok so would you be able to explain to me what happens exactly if the Phish thing happens to 'find' a dodgy email? what are the next sreps? Will it remove the message? Or ask for my confirmation for removal first?
