If they are exactly the same price, I think the AMD system is might be a better deal( bigger hard drive)The warranty is only 90 days though. Whatever you decide I hope it works out well. They both have lots of RAM, but the ATI graphics may be better. I would look up the graphics chips online and compare. I would also compare the processors by reviews. But you may not have to, by the time you see this there will probably be way more expert answers than mine. If it were me I would look up the processors online too and review. or see if you could find user reviews on CNET, on the two Dell models. Also check out their tech support and warranty support too, from reviews if you can.
Good luck .

Thanks! I went there before I bought my router and I'm glad I did. CNET is one of my favorite sites for research on something I want to buy.

Hi again. As far as the price drop, it's kind of hard to predict when, exactly and how much, all I can say is that it should be soon and significant.(I know, kind of vague). I'm going to a Google search and see what comes up. Wish I could be more specific.

Had a look on Cnet I don't think its that useful for me because Dell systems come in all sorts of setups. However let me know what you find from your Googling and PS congrats on becoming a SM!

Red face I can not recommend either - Sorry

If I am too be honest...
1. I prefer AMD over Intel
2. I do not like DELL..
3. I prefer a Warranty to No Warranty. 90 days (suks) 1 yr is about right.
90 days is normal for Refurb... 1 yr is normal for NBU. (NIB)
so I in all honesty can not RECOMMEND either system..
Both are Dell Systems.

Red face InspironTM 1501 (N0915015A) If I had to pick

1. This depends on many things. in days when you could find (unbiased) testing programs, using mobos from the same manufacture except for the CPU. and then using every thing else the same, on swapping them out...
AMD ran faster than Intel .. on 90% of the tests...the tests were ran in house, not over the Internet. which added to many variables.

1a. When I had my shop, I had fewer meltdowns of AMD CPUs than Intel CPUs using the same Heat sink, compound, and fans.
1b. Intel has always been the rather short on support. They offer only Drivers for limited devices, on a regular update basis.
1c. Many of there systems (via Bios) are very limited on what OS they support.
1d. Many of the Win 2000 laptops were designed not to support XP.
the same laptops would only support Win 98 thru win 2000.
1e. (AMD® Athlon™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology) will run X64 Windows Vista.

2. Dell is to be short on support. Always has been, for the normal user.
2a. I have relation whom work for Dell, will not use the product.
2b. I have personal friends (Dell Techs) who will not use the product.

3. I do not like propietary systems.
4. The very first OEM systems to leak during any test phase, has been DELL.
5. The easiest BIOS to emulate is Dell. (allowing Pirates - 100% activation.)

Every Computer Show I attended in the USA. they only gave 2 different manufacture computer away. ( Intel and Dell ) I always wondered why.

So if you are willing to have No Support from the manufacture or limited support. the Dell would be OK.

Warranty. Not always but limited warranty usually indicates substandard parts or marginal parts installed...or USED and returned-unknown reasons.

1 yr Warranty would be preferred, if it fails then you do have the ability to get it replaced.. (carefully read the Full Warranty). some are back to the manufacture, must have Original Packages, Fully Insured, at your cost. and
only guarantee the product to be fix/repaired at there convenience. Not within a specific time. Warranty back to the place of purchase is always BEST. (sample: bought in USA. return/repair/replacement warranty was only to Taiwan (China) .. )
suggest you check the items in the laptop. make and manufacture so as to find how easy it would be to replace (if needed). many times you can disable and use newer tech if needed to replace..

If I had to chose between only these 2 items..
InspironTM 1501 (N0915015A)
