A great exmple of what I mean is the new standard of games using shader 3.0 technology, which i only supported by geforce 7 series (and equivalent ATI series ) and up. Basically, if you don't have this you literally wont be able to play games which are currently being released. Integrated chips do not support this. Also, as you are getting Vista, surely you would want to use dx10? You will get about 30% upwards better performance on a desktop to a laptop. But if you are a laptop guy, then I say wait another 6 weeks before looking at the market for christmas. crabby

I have taken a look at dell laptops and desktops and so far I would say laptops are coming on top. For price vs power unless im being supid and the prob is Cabbyster is I don't understand processors and graphics thats my prob.

Well. When it comes to graphics, it's simple... integrated chips are worse as they have worse technology and use system resources, seperate chips are manufactured with graphics in mind and use their own resources so give better graphics and free up more resources for processing etc. Processors become a little bit more complicated. You have to look at a couple of things to see what the actual performance of a CPU will be. Intel now produce processors specific to each platform, the difference being low power usage on laptops and higher performance on desktops. The best way to show the difference is a comparison. For £600 you wil expect a E6550 desktop processor and a T5250 laptop processor. They compare as follows: E6550 - 2.33GHz per core, 4MB cache, 1333MHz FSB T5250 - 1.5GHz per core, 2MB cache, 667MHz FSB I mean... look at the difference! crabby

If i had the cash id get that Sony laptop that PC world keep advertising's, but im not much of a laptop person either. Desktops win hands down for me every time. Easer and cheaper to upgrade and for the price of £600 you cloud get a desktop that could be twice as powerful as a laptop.
