I put a PC together about 10 months ago. It has a 775 Abit motherboard with a 3.2 Intel Processor. I actually built the PC for only a couple hundred bucks. When I received my new PC (X2 3800+) I retired the Intel PC to the kids room. Because of the GPU, it wouldn't run Aero so yesterday I installed an EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GS card (previously purchased) to the box so that the kids could run video games. I thought that this would be all that I need for Aero to work but I guess not because Aero still is still not enabled. The PC only has 512 mb of memory. Is that my problem or will Aero work with only 512? I know that you are supposed to use a minimum of 1 gb of memory but in searching for the minimum specs, I am only seeing people talking about the video cards but not really saying about the memory. My other two PCs run Aero perfectly but they already had 1 gb or more of memory. Does anyone have any experience to share on this??? |

| Thanks Znod but I already read that and I already have Vista build 5728 installed. I don't think that I can run the Advisor because of Vista already being installed. I was hoping that someone would know if the fact that I only have 512 mb memory is what is keeping it from working. Does anyone here on VistaBabble have Aero working with only 512 mb memory? I have everything else in the minimum requirements. I even have a decent performance rating.. On a posting I was just reading, there can sometimes be a problem with Aero if you have Java Runtime installed on the PC. I know my son has Java on the PC because you need it to run Runescape. |

| Thanks again Znod, I figured it out partly because of your help. You can run Vista Upgrade Advisor (VUA) with Vista (but not with XP x64). I ran VUA and it said that I could run Aero. I uninstalled Java Runtime and it didn't help. I finally found a posting on Vista Newgroups and tried this: Right click desktop, Personalize, Windows Color and Appearence, Appearence Settings, Color Scheme, I then selected Windows Aero.... Bingo it worked I don't know why it didn't just turn on with the new video card or maybe it would have worked with the old card.. I dunno.. However, we now know that Aero will work with 512 mb.. I'm sure that it works better with 1 gb memory but in any case it works now... ![]() Last edited by mojavekroc : 09-30-2006 at 05:47 AM. |

| You are very welcome. And, oh, I assumed that you knew about the Personalize menu possibilities.
