I haven't had those kind of problems with Trend Micro and I have the FW set to Maximum. I don't have the patience to deal with Vista's FW so I got TMIS '07 which I had used (and beta tested) for a few years before. It is running great on Vista, hardly know it's there.

But if I have to choose just a FW it would be Comodo when it finally releases it's Vista version.

Yes, I too will be looking into Comodo. And, as mentioned, Zone Alarm.

I haven't had much luck with ZA. I used to get a lot of errors involving the True Vector engine. One time after an install I found out that I didn't have sound. I had to reinstall the sound card drivers to fix it. I never did know what that was about.

I have no idea how that would happen. I don't understand what you said about a clean install. Is everything straightened out now?

Clean install was I had to remove the newer version before I could install what i thought would be the newest version since it says ZA Pro 2007 on outside of software disc, and no I am waiting for the e-bay store to take care of the issue with the right key for the plain old ZA Pro install. Thanks

Settings for 'Problem Reports and Solutions'

I just enabled Vista outgoing firewall and found this site on Live search while searching for additional settings.

How do I enable outgoing access to the 'Problem Reports and Solutions' so that it can automatically check for solutions.

Right now I enabled outgoing access to wercon.exe and svchost.exe
However the firewall cautioned me against giving access to svchost.exe

Maybe I need to more specific when giving outgoing access to svchost.exe but I am not able to figure out the correct settings. Please help.

Thanks.

Here's great big . Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question. FYI, the main problem with the Vista firewall and outgoing is that the firewall really doesn't block much in the way of outgoing baddies. I have tested it using many tests, and it just doesn't do much. The most effective thing I have found, in lieu of using a good firewall, is to put IE and another folder. I am waiting to try the free versions of Zone Alaram and Comodo when they are Vista ready.

Smile

FYI, I added the following rules for Problem reporting services:

Quote:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Error Reporting - Microsoft.Net" dir=out program="%SystemRoot%\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0 .50727\dw20.exe" remoteport=80 protocol=tcp action=allow profile=public

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Error Reporting" dir=out program="%SystemRoot%\system32\wercon.exe" remoteport=80 protocol=tcp action=allow profile=public
If you need a prompting outgoing firewall look at the Windows SDK it has an excellent sample application to build a prompring-outgoing firewall on top of the built-in Vista firewall.

I am fully on Vista firewall and am very happy with the powerful options it provides.
