I love avast! Home (free). It updates frequently and provides 7 or 8 different real-time monitoring options. And, it definitely is Vista ready. Finally, one doesn't even notice it is running especially if you disable the, IMO, unnecessary monitoring options. I don't monitor anything that is not internet-related. And, even then, I don't monitor, for example, P2P since I don't use P2P. I monitor only the obvious 3 most important web related activities.

I used avast for a while, and for some reason that I can't remember, I went back to AVG. AVG works just fine for me.

Free antivirus software may be the only option for those on a limited budget. The question, of course, is how well free antivirus software protects your PC, how easy is it to use, and if something goes wrong will you be left out in the cold? The answers may surprise you. This review looks at three free antivirus solutions: AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, AVAST 4 Home Edition, and AVG Free Edition.

As I mentioned, AVG works just fine with my Vista installation. Have had zero problems with their new version at least, which can be found here.

You are very welcome. Consistent with what runamonk says, I always hear good things about Nod32. I have never tried Nod32, but if it was named Znod32, then I am sure I would use it.

Oh, and I should have mentioned that I like very much and use Ad-Aware SE Plus by Lavasoft. Lavasoft has a beta program underway for the next version of this program. You should still be able to get in on it. Here is a related discussion that might interest you: http://www.vistababble.com/forums/vi...ghlight=zombie.
