| Well, I got the whole owner thing down, but now I am having problems with the permissions. It says I do not have the permission to paste a file into a folder. I went to security and located my user name and made sure everything was checked, but when I try and paste the file, it says I still do not have permission. What can I do? |

| OK, I assume that you made sure that you have full permissions on and have ownership of the file and folder. If so, well, Vista can be stubborn sometimes particularly when UAC is on. When Vista is being stubborn, I just wait patiently until Vista thinks I no longer care. ![]()

| To take ownership.: 1. Start/Run and type cmd 2. Type cd\ 3. Type cd windows\system32 4. As a user, Run this command, takeown /f Spoolsv.exe This has given you ownership of the file. Enter the System32 directory via Windows Explorer and right click the file. Go to the Properties/Security Tab and edit/add an entry for everyone and give them all full access. (tick all the squares). You will find you can now delete the file. Examples: TAKEOWN /? TAKEOWN /F lostfile TAKEOWN /F \\system\share\lostfile /A TAKEOWN /F directory /R /D N TAKEOWN /F directory /R /A TAKEOWN /F * TAKEOWN /F C:\Windows\System32\acme.exe TAKEOWN /F %windir%\*.txt TAKEOWN /S system /F MyShare\Acme*.doc TAKEOWN /S system /U user /F MyShare\foo.dll TAKEOWN /S system /U domain\user /P password /F share\filename TAKEOWN /S system /U user /P password /F Doc\Report.doc /A TAKEOWN /S system /U user /P password /F Myshare\* TAKEOWN /S system /U user /P password /F Home\Logon /R TAKEOWN /S system /U user /P password /F Myshare\directory /R /A opens start -- type cmd and run as admin --> type takeown /?

| Yes, everything was checked off and it said I have full permission and I am the owner. When I try to add something to the folder, it says I need permission in order to do that. I have restarted and waited and nothing seems to work. When I try to access it, UAC is off. Snuffy, I am going to give that a try. I'm gonna have to figure out how to do it though, but I will give it a try. Thanks ![]() |

| Snuffy, well I used the command takeown /f directory /r /d n and it listed a bunch of folders and files and said "now owned by user". So I got all happy of course. THEN, i tested it by trying to rename the folder, and i still was not allowed permission. |

| Let us know... Pls.. exactly what are you trying to delete that denies you access... plus being admin and logged in as you is dafault to ordinary person.the UAC then ask for permission always say YES...or I also use logoff as me and login as Admin... big difference... or I use the method I showed .(open start -- type cmd and run as admin --> type takeown /?).. It works and tested the hard way... dual boot on Vista and then try to DELETE #2 Vista... (Most people simply FORMAT the HD/partition).. I have never shut off UAC...never found a reason too. but many ppl do..
