The question of security in Vista is a biggy, is vista gonna be rock solid or is there gonna be another sp2 situation? i hope to god vista SP1 is not gonna be another massive security cover up just like xp SP2 and constant updates to keep vista secure. I trust Microsoft when it comes to most things but security ain't one of them. I get this picture of hackers waiting for vista to thrive and then hitting users across the globe. Has Microsoft hit the nail on the head this time or are we in for another security hole madness???

| I believe MS has done a good job with Vista security, but no company can ever make software completely safe from hackers. Determined hackers will always find a way. MS is making that much harder on hackers now, with Vista, but I don't think you can ever get completely away from security updates.

| Yes i think my hopes are to high im expecting a bulletproof OS but like you said hackers wil allways find a way in. I realy dont get hackers, i mean why do they insist on trying to destory and perfectly good OS. Yes its true alot of them are out to steel your details and such but the ones who do it just to make a point that they can...very annoying.

| I think things will be pretty much the same. Companies and users trying to stay ahead of pranksters and the truely criminal.

| I think the reason why XP has so many security holes is due to the fact that it is dependent on applications from third party for its security and, to some extend, its function. One of the biggest security holes and hardest to correct is through unassigned drivers. These drivers caused many security problems, but it was left to Microsoft, and not the maker of that driver, to fix the problem. That’s the main reason Microsoft does not want unassigned drivers to be installed in Vista. However, I’m sure people will find a way and then it will be up to MS to come up with a patch to fix the problem.

| The problem is, what do MS expect us to do when the most up-to-date official drivers aren't digitally sihned by MS? I know many people will think afterwards... 'Well that driver worked, so signing doesn't matter'. But for MS to test all drivers on release would be madness anyway... so I don't know how you could resolve the problem crabby |

| You make a good point Crabby. Another thing is that if MS does not allow for those drivers to be installed, what other choice will the consumer has? It's not an easy problem to resolved as you stated. Many people point out that Linux is a more secure because it doesn't have so many security problems as XP. However, (and you can correct me on this as you know more about Linux than I do) Linux doesn't have the amount of traffic that XP has. If Linux was as popular as XP, it would have the same or even more security problems than XP and Mac OS combined due to the open source. I know this is probably mixing oranges and apples, but my point is that the moment MS begins to allow unassigned drivers to be used with Vista, the security problems will start to appear and MS will get blame for it.
