Retaining New Posts.

On some other forums I visit, there is an option to "mark new posts as read"
Would it be possible to have this facility in this one? Sometimes, I am sure with others as well as myself, it is neccessary to leave the forum with new posts unread. With an automatic cancellation, this means that on you return they are gone. This can often be a bit of a nuisance.

Not sure, Dave. Will check into it.

Ok, I've chosen an option that I think will solve your problem. Supposedly, it won't mark new posts as read until you've actually read them, as opposed to using a time-based criteria. Not sure if it will actually work or not, though, so let me know.

Thanks very much for the attention. It was not quite what I had in mind. I have been playing with it and now I can see that if you do not wish to read all of the postings (maybe not in a readers particular field) then the list of unread postings is going to get very long indeed. What it would need now, to compement it, would be an option, before log off, to mark "all forums read". It was just a thought. The forum is pretty neat anyway - don't bother with too many changes if it upsets the other folks.

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

I like the old way better. This new view is just too "busy" and not as clean.

There's always been a "Mark Forums Read" link at the bottom of the list of forums on the /forums/ page.

So, looking for more feedback from other users. Want me to put it back to the way it was? Or keep it as it is?

Humor me, here. I don't see any difference in the New Posts screen. What am i missing? What sucks about it?

What happened to my post here? Maybe, I didn't do "save." What is the point of marking posts not read as read--just so the stars will go away? Well, they come back anyway--which is my biggest complaint. But, what I'd view as useful is a "View New Posts" button. Maybe there is one, and I just haven't bumped into it. And, like daz, I haven't noticed any changes lately except that the stars seem more annoying than usual.

Znod, there are a couple of New Posts links. The most obvious is at the top of every page.
