| Hi Guys: This thread is straying from its original topic again. I would appreciate it if you would return to its original topic. If you want to discuss another topic, then please start a new thread. My practice is to close threads that continue to go off topic after first mentioning the issue. Best to all, duzzilin

| It all depends on the thread. Old threads being risen from the ashes is a no no, therefore old threads with no traffic should be closed. Current threads should be steered in a way that best suits the situation, which in my opinion doesnt mean closing and probably wont even meaning commenting (most threads keep their objective in mind) but on the off chance it was an important thread (like a bug resolution) it should be locked when solved to allow other users to get at the information easier. Obviously, opinionated threads (ie those with no bug info etc - like this one) have no real reason to be steered as they wouldn't be important to the layman. crabby |

| Look I came a across in the wrong way, my feelings are that this is not really a massive issue (if we had all members active then it would be). As Crabby said in one of his posts the top 5 people (people with the most posts) are doing around 50% of all posting (at the time of Crabbys thread). Therefore I think we should be talking about how to engage other members 1st. I have no suggestions as yet on how to do this but feel free to comment and yes I know this is a bit PS also I think we should talk about the site after Vista is in the shops. |

On run-on threads, it really doesn't matter to me. But, if we want to get as many minds as possible working on topics of importance, then I think it is better if topics are discussed separately. There are some of us who just aren't going to have time to keep up with everything that is going on in run-on threads and, thus, to contribute to topics at the maximum. Considering crabby's points, if we have a run-on thread that starts with a given topic and that topic is forgotten, but resurrected later, then what do we do? Close the thread because the topic is old, or let it go because now deals with a more recent issue topic. And, I don't see any reason why all threads, except purely BS threads, shouldn't stay on topic for the reasons mentioned above.

| Znod, my way of thinking is such: Solved bugs - close so that the topic's end = the solution (easy for others to find). Unsolved bugs - Leave open for a certain amount of zero traffic, because if it can be solved it will... and if it isnt solved, any information in it will be irrelevant (due to updates etc) by the time someone else asks about it (hence a new thread will be required). General posts - Leave open for a certain amount of zero traffic, again once closed a new thread could be re-opened at a later date for new information (a good example would be 'what to do with the site', it only applies to that moment in time, but could be brought up later on). crabby |

| Individual posts can be moved to new or existing threads. So, if an old thread is resurrected, but the new post in worth keeping, we can always just move the new post to its own thread. Just so ya know.
