Smile Vista Edition Forums

i think that you should add different forums for the versions of vista because all versions are different and features have ben pulled from all the builds apart from ultimate. I think 4 different forums should be opened up.

Vista Home Basic
Vista Home Premium
Vista Business
Vista Ultimate

It would be a good idea if we were getting hundreds of posts a day. But atm the traffic is sustainable with the forums we have. Thanks for the idea though... it may come in handy in a month or two!

Might be a good idea, but the whole forum would have to reorganized, in concept, to accommodate the new forums--i.e., many of the existing forums would have to be duplicated in each of the new forums (e.g., "Installing and Upgrading Vista") to maintain the VB existing structure--and what would happen to the posts in those to be duplicated. If left "on-board," then people would constantly be posting in the wrong forums. I give a zero probability to having the required rearrangement being done.

Do you meant forums or threads? I can see a thread for each different version, although all it takes is one post to veer of the subject. But a forum for each edition would be way too much, especially since not many people are talking about Home Basic.

Please, please, please. No run-on threads about a whole Vista version. I am sure he meant forums.

I don't think he meant forum because that would be insane. I don't think that a thread for each edition is a bad idea, but that's my opinion. If one just purchased Home Basic, one would not want to talk about Aero or Windows Media Center for example. However, I know how threads are veer into other subjects very quickly, so I'm not saying let's do it.

The way the forums are setup right now are on a feature basis. This works to seperate the editions anyway (as a home basic user (for instance) wont vista the 'aero' section). If specific features become more popular (eg: dreamscene) we will create new sections for them as well. If you have ideas of different sections that are required, please post suggestions

I agree with both of you. Sort of opposite of what felix said, if someone asks, for example, about Device Manager on Ultimate, then it woul be better for the implication of the reply to be that the answer is the same regardless of the version--assuming that is true. And, that goal would be defeated under the four forums plan.

It would be redundant to have a forum for each version imo. Tho, they are all different versions, it's all the same operating system.
