3D, gaming slowness

I've been having a hard time running my Call of Duty 2 game on vista. When I had Vista RC1, RC2 the game wouldn't run period. Now I have Vista Business and I had to put the game in XP compatability for it to run. The thing is that it doesn't run very well my game play is slow and choppy as if I'm going at 10-15 fps. I also have a friend at MIT and they have some ultra fast computers I'm talking Terra hertz territory and they have been running autocad and other 3D based software and it is painfully slow on vista anyone else notice any problems on their vista with 3D or gaming?

Many report gaming slowness on Vista. But, I don't have the specifics in mind.

Yeah i have had some games that run poor, Have you tried disabling aero?? some games do it automatically but a some don't. Also close the sidebar and basically anything that uses memory.

If you lower the graphics settings such as the level of detail and resolution this will dramatically improve preformance too.

Good Luck.

OK I'll give that a try, but when I set it to compatability mode I checked all the options to turn off the graphics and use a low res and I would think with 2GB on my laptop the game wouldn't run that badly but I will give the stuff a try and report back.

I am not experiencing any performance problems in COD2 either (I also have COD and COD:UO installed as well). But I do have a problem with some objects in the game that gives off a wierd glow (like barrels or furniture in a dark room) or "black" grass but other than that it works as good as it did in XP.

I also run Quake 4 without any problems too.
