Adobe Flash Player - dissapears

Interesting event this morning when I signed on this morning. The flash player which has been installed since day one in IE7 no longer functioned.

I kept getting error messages that I needed the latest version of Flash or to enble JavaScript. I checked to find that Java was enabled. I also reinstalled the latest Flash - however the install did not follow the events shown on their site.

I suspect that the problem may be a result of downloading and installing Firefox a couple of days ago, but I can't be sure. When I first started Firefox it complained of no Flash - so I installed it there also.

What didn't work:
Installing Flash again from Adobe web site.
Scanning registry looking for ".flv" entries and deleting the ones that had valuses in them.
Ran Registry Fix application and did a cleanup of registry
What it took to get Flash working again:
  • Closed all apps in use (recommended is browser(s)) - I'm paranoid. And ran the uninstall flash app.
  • Ran my RegistryFix app to cleanup any entries left behind - and there were some. Did a reboot to start clean after the registry changes.
  • Started IE7 and went to Adobe for an install of Flash. NOTE: The install this time more closely matched the information on Adobe's web site.
  • Tested the install at several Flash sites to find it working again.

Thanks for the additional info. When I did a search this AM on Flash Player the only item returned was a post back in February which did no show a resolve.

Have we been down this road before but the posts don't show up in a search?
