| When I log on I am having a issue where the Explorer program will bring up a blank screen. This is totally on its own, I have not opened explorer. The only way to make it go away is to go to the task manager and close it. This screen totally blocks everything on the screen so none of the tool bar is showing to work with. It happens randomly, not right when you log in but shortly after that. What is strange is this is happening on two separate PC's that both came with windows Vista Premium factory installed. One is brand new and really not had any software added, it was doing this right after the setup was completed. Any Ideas? Looking for experiences here. Thank you Dan |

Then I'd suggest that you have a corrupt system file. but I find this statement Quote:
There is a FREE program I recommend Belarc... install save the log and post so we can see what you (really not had any software added), that is causing the conflict. The question is " Is the glass half full or half empty?" And Quote:

| Verify the Start Menu: Click the Start button > Type Start in the Search Box > Click Start Menu from the list. If you see a program that starts with Vista and you don't need it, remove it from the start menu.

| You can use msconfig to alter the programs that start with windows, simply search for msconfig in the start menu and then uncheck anything yoou don't want to load in the start up menu. It does seem odd that you have had two PCs with the same issue when I doubt anyone on here has ever heard of the problem. I can't think why your two PCs would have it unless they have a common install application which is not fully vista compatible. crabby |

| Belarc can save the log under .txt then anybody can view what all is installed in your system... many programs that OEM install for Trial versions are NOT REALLY COMPATIBLE. (some are set to "work as winXP" some are set to work under "DEP.") and can cause many problems... By seeing the programs, then looking for the cause is much easier. I also use this program on every system that I work on... it really does make my repairs faster, and easier.

I have used PC Pitstop in the past does a very good check of you system and tell you what is running and startup programs just join the site and do the full tests scan and see what it comes up with and rates your system with other rated systems.

| The setup I spoke of is when you turn on a new pc it leads you through a setup program with your information and registration. When I said the new pc has not really had any software added I meant nothing besides the OEM programs loaded from the factory being turned on. You have a good point about the compatability thing. It probably is something from the OEM load that is in the wrong mode. Just seemed odd that 2 different brands of PC's one laptop and one Tower would experience the same issue and it not have occured for anyone else. The tower does have several added programs but they were all listed as Vista compatable. Just a matter of figuring out what is incompatable..... Very frustraiting. DJ |

| Had you checked all the startup programs as suggested by Crabby; running msconfig? Click the Star button > Type MSCONFIG in the search box > Hit the Enter key > Go to Startup tab
