applications shut when i click File> Open

Things like Adobe Acrobat and Maple 11 shut when I try to open or save. It happens regardless of whether i'm using Aero or classic theme, which makes me think it is not gfx related.

I'm using Vista Home Premium on a Sony Vaio FE21B.

Anyone else get this problem?

Help appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

SONY and VISTA have major problems

SONY VAIO and Vista have lots of problems...
the programs are compatible with Vista
it is the Computer.
Your support also depends on where your located.

Where are you located??

The Model would also help.

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

Go to Control Panel > Classic View > Problem Report and Solutions. See what problems have been reported and do a Google search for any recorded solutions.

I have tried running them as admin, same problem.

I am in the UK.

I have tried Google searching, but I didn't get very far "Vista programs close after a few seconds" got a lot of unrelated articles

Its SO annoying. Why can't Microsoft invent something that a) isnt a rip off of most other operating systems and b) works just as well as the things they are ripping off!

I'm so disheartened with Vista. They had seven years! What on earth were they doing? There are still numerous security threats, things still dont work, and there is nothing new in this OS, all ripped off MAC and Linux.

Rant Over

I guess Sony should get some blame too. Damn them too.

Back to the problem - I've also just finished a fresh install, and updated all Sony drivers from Sony's website for Vista.

So things work better from the TW site than those from the UK or USA sites.
Several other report "If you can access the JP sites for Sony, over 98% of there DRIVERS work correctly." The reason I ask is several ppl I have assisted claim they can not access other than sites from the UK on support for their computers.

I use TW for all that I can. Several years ago, there was a place in Scotland that had the best drivers, when the reached UK or USA they were changed to fit UK and/or US laws... today that is called Creative Sound Blaster.

I stated in my original post:

"I'm using Vista Home Premium on a Sony Vaio FE21B."

I got the drivers from the UK site. I will try the TW site. Thanks

or maybe I can use the FE20 for reference.

The method for locating your model number depends on when the product was released. Please refer to the appropriate section below.

For models released before Summer 2000
The computer information and compliance label (located on the bottom of the notebook case or the back of the desktop case) indicates the actual model / product name.

For models released Fall 2000 and later
The model name can be found on a small label located in one of the following places:

Notebook Computers: (see picture)

On the bezel (frame) of the LCD display.
On the LCD hinge.
At the top left or top right of the keyboard.
Desktop Computers: (see picture)

On the front of the computer.
and Model FE21B send me to Japan for all Info. Which I have major problems with... but this link offers many suggestions to follow read and see if they help.
