Avast Antivirus

Is anyone having any issues with Avast Antivirus? I tried installed it and Vista blocked the driver? According to Avast people Vista blocked the driver by mistake but it would be fixed on the next build. But the next build is the final version as far as I know. Any suggestions?

It is reported that MS blocked a file of Avast. However, Avast is scheduled to release an updated version on Friday per there newsgroups.

I am using PC-cillin (along with Ad-Aware SE Plus). Both appear to work fine. I liked Avast though. So, I would welcome it back when my trial PC-cillin subscription runs out (maybe a Vista update will solve the incompatibility problem with Avast). I can't answer the question about the next version. I suppose there might be an RC2, etc., that would not be publicly available. Some things are so far from working that I don't think that MS could cavalierly go to the final product. My examples are Windows Explorer getting hung up too often and partnering/syncing with hand-helds not working completely.

I think the Vista RC is an RC, the problem is that other software developers are slow to code with it in mind, which is leading to many 3rd party bugs. My most annoying bug is the fact that DivX isn't fully compatable yet

Znod, FYI,,,according to the website, PCcillin is free just until the end of Oct., it's also a complete suite. Avast is good cause it's so freeeee. It's just an antivirus, but with vista that's all needed. CA eTrust is free for one year, but also has issues. Hopefully, as dsljay mentioned, there's a fix for Avast. If someone knows about aa fix please post it here.

I received this from the Avast team: "Hello, there are many builds available for developers between RC1 and RTM, also there is possibility, that there will be public RC2.

Right, on PC-cillin. But, I might buy it. Still, like I said above, I'd welcome a fixed avast! by the time my PC-cillin trial runs out (acutally I said subscription above). And, yep, I was speculating above that there would be an RC2, etc. I guess we'll see.

Avast Antivirus

So far I have tried four antivirus on Vista: PCcillin, Avast, McAfee and CA eTrust. PCcillin had an issue with X64 Beta 2, but has been corrected since. The others still have issues, especially McAfee. Find it hard to believe that such large company is so behind the curve.
Received this info from eTrust just a minute ago. See if u can make some sense out of it....*AV 7.1 is compatible with Vista. Will not be "Certified" until final Vista release is available.

So it works with vista probably due to its compatability stuff, but isn't certified native vista compataible. Just like all other programs Microsoft are being rogered by useless third party software that isn't investing in updating itself! I think all my issues with vista are now 3rd party based, and yet it seems like its up to microsoft to do something about.

Shame

If eTrust 7.1 is not "Certified", who is responsible for the certification, Microsoft of Computer Associates? If it's CA, why not do it now? If it's Microsoft, I supposed they don't trust the program as it's presently written. I think u r correct crabby...Microsoft has the responsibility to build the operating system and provide the companies with the source code. The companies have the responsibility to build software that meets requirements of the operating system.
