Beware - NVIDIA v100.65 issue

In an effort to have the virtual desktops that I became accustom to in XP I decided to install the latest non-beta release (100.65) of NVIDIA drivers. Followed all the rules for the install and selected reboot now at the end and WaLah!! - NO MORE COMPUTER!! As in boot/reboot/reboot. Finally came to the boot select mode window where I selected the Safe Mode - again reboot to same window. Even tried booting to a command mode no luck.

Finally booted from Vista DVD and selected the repair. Selected return to a check point. Again boot to boot mode selection window - Again tried all the options resulting in a reboot for each. Again booted from DVD and selected the repair. This time it spent a little more time analyzing the system and again came back to reverting back to another check point. Selected and reboot.

Finally recovered my Vista system. Not sure what happened here, but I won't be updating my video drivers from NVIDIA in the near future.

I am using 101.41 beta which came out around the 3rd of this month. I found it on Neowin's forum http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=543192

I have had a couple of "blackscreens" with this build which a Nvidia file shuts down and Vista recovers it (which is a nice feature, it would have probably blue screened in XP).

I decided to test your NVidia download... none of the above problems, but
after installing NVidia v.100.65 I have a NEW NEVER USED CD Drive..

WOW, strange thing I can not use it... because it is not there...

It is not Virtual, nor is it real...it does not show in Device Manager,

What is it??? Honestly I do not know...

The NEW CD drive is still here, removed the NVidia v100.65, checked under Admin tools, it is not listed under storage, it is not listed in Devices, it is not listed anywhere, it has no properties, it can not be used... it's just there... When I plug in USB it moves up to show past (CD Drive L
to be M or N or O I only have 3 Flash drives to play with... I does not seem to hurt anything.. its just there...
It does not show in the registery...
I might try restore..

I wonder if it has anything to do with using an SLI motherboard?

Snuffy - does your system use an SLI motherboard?

Hmm! The only other thing I can think of is the NVIDIA Pure Video Decoder that I have installed - But I wouldn' think the combo would cause such a severe failure.
